Participation in the Indian Independence Day celebration organized by the Consulate of India in Barcelona, an event that brought together the Indian and Spanish communities for a day of cultural exchange and connection. Following the flag-raising ceremony, performed by Consul General Inbasekar Sundaramurthi alongside children from the Catalan-Indian community, a summary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address was read aloud. Next, the cultural showcase began, reflecting the strong ties uniting India and Spain. Young talent Javier Garrabella, winner of the prestigious Pratibha Sangam Competition, organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in the Carnatic Music – Vocal (Konnakkol) category, opened the artistic segment. This marked the first time a Spaniard has won this renowned award in India in the vocal percussion category, symbolizing the growing artistic connection between the two nations. Classical Indian dance brought magic to the stage through a fusion of Kathak dance by Núria Cabo and Bharatanatyam dance by Samyukta Chillara. Subsequently, Josefina Fernández transported the audience to the Indian state of Gujarat with Garba and Dandiya folk dances, filling the hall with rhythm and color. The Catalan group Dancing Ganesh got the audience dancing with their powerful energy and brilliant costumes, performing a selection of Bollywood and South Indian dances. To conclude this magnificent artistic showcase, Swarup Roy performed the song “Aye Watan Aye Watan Humko Teri Kasam,” bringing a close to a cultural day featuring Indian and Spanish artists that celebrated not only India’s Independence but also the India-Spain Dual Year. These initiatives aim to strengthen cultural and social ties between the two countries.
